Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation

After hearing a lot of hype about the new Maybelline Dream Wonder foundation I was excited to be given the opportunity to trial it as part of the Beauty Heaven trial team.

We were asked to choose our foundation colour via an online swatch and I decided on No 20 Classic Ivory.  I am always nervous about choosing foundations off internet swatches as I have regularly been wrong, but this was an absolutely perfect match.

Maybelline New York Wonder Foundation

I have never had a foundation match my skintone as perfectly as the Dream Wonder foundation. Sadly though, this is not enough to make me fall in love with it.

First impressions were that it was in a smaller bottle than all of my other foundations – it contains 20ml as compared to the regular 30ml with an unusual ‘dropper style’ applicator.

Upon opening the bottle I was instantly aware of the smell of alcohol which was quite off putting at first.  I was happy though to discover that the smell didn’t linger once the foundation was applied.

I have skin which is on the drier side which I don’t believe is conducive to this foundation. I found application quite difficult regardless of the method I employed. I usually apply foundation with my foundation brush but I found that the foundation ‘set’ too quickly for me to use the brush. I experimented with my hands, beauty sponge, with, and without primer – all without success.

I found that the foundation accentuated my pores and the drier areas of my face looked patchy and parched.

I also tried layering the foundation to see if that would improve the appearance but unfortunately it didn’t.

Due to the fantastic colour match I was impressed with how it left no visible foundation marks on my jawline however I couldn’t overlook how it left the rest of my face looking.

I really wanted to like the Maybelline Dream Wonder foundation, but unfortunately my skin did not like it.

I have been happy to learn that many trial team members have had great success with the Maybelline Dream Wonder foundation, so it really does prove that we are all different and what suits me may not suit you, and vice versa.

It was disappointing that I didn’t like this as I absolutely love the Maybelline New York Fit Me! foundation and have recommended it to many people over the last few years.

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Wonder Foundation?  What do you look for in your foundation?

I haven’t tried this foundation but seeing that I have 40+ year old skin which tends to be dry (an unfortunate side effect of ageing) I’m not tempted to try this foundation after reading your review!

What a pity it’s not more moisturising, especially seeing it matched your skin tone so perfectly!

I was disappointed that it didn’t work for me, especially when I saw how good the colour match was. Even though I disliked this one, I still really love the Maybelline Fit Me liquid foundation and also the matching concealer. I believe that the concealer is a good dupe for the Nars creamy concealer which is fantastic as I would prefer to pay a drugstore price rather than a high end price 🙂

I have the Fit Me foundation and really like it. I was thinking of getting the concealer in this week’s 40% off cosmetics sale @ Priceline so your comment has pushed me over the line – I’m getting it 😀

I hope you managed to pick up some beauties at the Priceline sale. I was SO proud of myself. I managed to walk out empty handed. My willpower is definitely getting better 🙂

I had the exact same experience as you Kate! Right down to it being the perfect colour match which is so hard for me to find. Nevermind, the search for the perfect foundation continues!

I am glad that I wasn’t the only one Christine. There are quite a few bloggers who have said they like it so it does really prove that you have to try things for yourself and make your own judgement. I am finding that my ‘foundation wardrobe’ is getting larger and larger but there are a couple of real standouts that I am always reaching for. Maybe I should share a post about my most loved foundations?

      • Christine says

Yes, please do! It looks like we have similar skin types/tones so I’d be interested in your recommendations 🙂

Sure Christine. I will do an updated foundation post so you can see what I love and the ones that are in my collection that I am not that fond of.

Thanks Vicki 🙂 Sorry I didn’t respond to this comment earlier but for some reason it ended up in my spam folder :-(.
