Skincare update March 2016

As you would know by now, I am a stickler for looking after my skin.

I am fortunate that at the age of 46 (one week away from 47 – sssh, don’t tell anyone) to have very good skin.

When writing about skincare products I will not write a review unless I have given it a thorough work out over a minimum period of 4-6 weeks.  I have this clearly stated in my media kit and occasionally this means that I may miss out on an opportunity to receive products to review as the brand wants a quick turn around.  I am 100% happy to miss out on that opportunity as my focus is always to give YOU an honest, tried and tested report on how I have found the products.  Not a review written by reading a press release and putting it into my own words.

All of these products I am featuring today have been in my skincare regime for the last 2 – 6 months.  Some I have almost finished completely so will either need to be repurchased or replaced with a new product for trial.

So, let’s get started

The first part in my skincare regime is to remove my eye makeup.  I am a lover of Micellar water and regularly use the Bioderma Crealine H2O however I have recently been using the Bioderma Hydrabio H2O version which is for sensitive skin.  I have just finished the bottle and was impressed with its ability to remove my waterproof mascara with just as much ease as my usual Crealine H2O.  I would be happy to continue to use either version.

As an advocate of a double cleanse I regularly use two different cleansers to achieve a perfectly cleansed skin.

For the first cleanse I love using an oil and have been using the Shu Uemura skin purifier.  It is luxurious, smells beautiful and leaves my skin feeling beautifully soft.

For the second cleanse I tend to mix it up a little depending on how my skin is feeling on the day.  My two favourites over the last few months have been the Eve Lom morning time cleanser and the Elucent whitening exfoliating cleanser.

I enjoy how my skin feels after using the Eve Lom morning time cleanser however I absolutely hate the smell.  It smells like old socks to me but over the last month or so I have become accustomed to the smell.  This tube was a deluxe sample from a Look Fantastic box which was worth more than the cost of the subscription so made it a very affordable way of trialling the product.

The Elucent whitening exfoliating cleanser has small exfoliating beads which help to buff off dead skin cells to reveal a more radiant skin.  It smells fresh and washes off easily with water without leaving an oily residue.

I know some of you don’t use a toner in your skincare regime, but for me it is a step that I just cannot miss.  I love the fresh feeling of either a quick swipe or spritz of toner over my face after cleansing to help my skin ‘wake up’.

The Swiss Deep Sea hydrating mist toner with aloe and sea minerals has been my toner of choice and instead of spritzing it, I have been spraying it on a cotton pad and swiping it on my face.  I have almost finished this bottle and have another in the cupboard already waiting.

I have also been religiously using my Uriage thermal spray or the La Roche Posay thermal spring water to keep my skin hydrated during the never ending heat that we have endured this summer.  Both of these sprays are even better when kept in the fridge!

I have a few serums on the go at all times and it depends on what my skin needs as to which one I choose.

My favourites over the last few months have been the Olay Regenerist Miracle Booost youth pre-essence, Kismet Jardin Hydra Gem or the Hylamide Glow radiance booster.

I LOVE the packaging of the Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost – when you unscrew the top it automatically draws up the exact amount of product you require into a dropper ready for application.  You can use this in conjunction with other serums if you require and I have been loving using it with the Hylamide Glow radiance booster.

I was put onto the Hylamide Glow by Lucy from Skeeter and Scout after I asked her what products to pick up when I was in the UK last year.  We couldn’t get the Hylamide products in Australia at the time but I ended up waiting until they arrived here before I added them to my routine.  I have definitely seen an improvement in texture and radiance using this, but like the Eve Lom cleaner I am definitely not a fan of the scent.  It makes me screw my nose up everytime I apply it!

I have mentioned my love of the Kismet Jardin Hydra Gem before and it will be featuring in an empties post really soon as I am at the end of the bottle Sad smile.

Day moisturisers

I always have quite a few moisturisers on the go.

For day time I have been using the Olay Regenerist micro-sculpting UV moisturiser with SPF30 and the Elucent anti-ageing day moisturiser with SPF50.

What excites me about both of these moisturisers is they offer good sun protection, great moisturisation levels, no sunscreen smell and they work well with my foundation.  I have also noticed no flash back when taking photos using these moisturisers either.

Night moisturisers

My evening moisturisers need to offer lots of hydration without leaving my skin slippery or tacky.  The Bioderma Hydrabio Riche and Kismet Jardin E’ternelle Age defying cream fit the bill beautifully.  I have been using the Bioderma Hydrabio Riche since our overseas trip and will consider including it in every travel bag in the future as it is the perfect product to add intense moisture into your tired, travel weary skin.

The Kismet Jardin range continues to excite me and I have been thrilled to include the E’ternelle Age Defying cream into my routine.  You only require a small amount to achieve soft, moisturised skin and the fragrance is lovely and subtle – just as I like it.

Eye cream and exfoliator

I religiously apply eye cream both morning and night and for the last month or so the Benefit It’s Potent has been my eye cream of choice.  I have been very pleasantly surprised by this eyecream as I don’t always think of Benefit as a skincare brand.  I have A LOT of Benefit makeup products, but the It’s Potent eyecream is only the second skincare product of theirs that I have tried.  I have loved it so much that it is almost finished!

Alpha H Liquid Gold is a product that you will have to get used to seeing in my skincare posts as I absolutely ADORE it.  I have been using it for about a year and already have 2 backups in the cupboard waiting for when this bottle runs out.  I also have a travel bottle which is half the size and is perfect to take away on any trips.  I use this every second night instead of my night moisturiser.  You can use it in conjunction with your moisturiser however you get a more intense treatment if you only apply the Alpha H Liquid Gold.

I have quite a few products waiting their turn to be included in my routine so I am looking forward to sharing those with you when it is time.

Are any of your favourites here?  What are your favourite skincare products?

I know Beth – it is really difficult to get past the horrible smell but I am determined to keep going with it so I can see if I get any results. All I can say is that it had better make my skin look radiant, young and line free!

What a fascinating post Kate – SO good to read what you love my dear! I’m also a HUGE fan of Alpha-H Liquid Gold, and I too use it every second night, and don’t add anything else over the top. Can’t believe how good my skin looks and feels the next morning. I’ve bookmarked this page as I’ll be referring to it in the future – such valuable information! xxx
